Scots Mash-Up Team Group Mystery?

We need some help from north of the border – what’s going on here, mon?

scot team grp

We thought we were looking at an early promotional photo for the new Scottish Premier League in at the start of the 1975-76 season, but we are missing Hearts, Ayr, St Johnstone and possibly Aberdeen if that isn’t Bobby Clark at the back?

There are also three Rangers players and two from Motherwell. Somebody please tell us what is going on. We feel like proper bawheids.

There are many more brilliant signed photos available to buy on eBay at: memory-lane-sports HERE.

Team of the year ? Spot the young Alan Hansen in the Partick Thistle strip.

It’s a tricky one. I have checked out Scottish League XI details – but couldn’t find a team listing for the games played in 1974 or 76 and, unlike England, it seems Scotland did not select a ‘Team of the Year’ at that time. Certainly many of those pictured would be selected – Sandy Jardine was Footballer of the Year in 74/75, Pat Stanton in 69/70

  3. The Keeper is Jim Cruickshank from Hearts.

This picture appears in Andy Gray’s autobiography called “Gray Matters”, (Macmillan 2004). In the caption underneath it he says “Scotland’s “Team of the Year” for 1975 including a 19 year old Alan Hansen and one of my heroes Kenny Dalglish.
