More disappointment via the viewfinder of our happy snappy crappy 80s cameras…
“It looked much better on the day…”
The Hawthorns, West Bromwich Albion. I’m not even in the ground yet and I’m already snapping away. Sadly, due to the lack of any sort of zoom feature on my Konica Pop camera West Brom’s giant Throstle just looks like a normal sized Thrush perched on the barbed wire.
St James Park, Newcastle United. Thanks to Rob Stokes who sent us this photo of Newcastle v Cambridge from 1992, when St James Park was a rather more modest ground than it is today. Not a bad effort really, but the presence of a couple of big heads in the foreground just edges it into rubbish territory.
Carrow Road, Norwich City. Big heads aplenty render my snap of Norwich v Stoke from August 1980 completely rubbish. And this was the best of my holiday snaps, believe me.
Loakes Park, Wycombe Wanderers. Our Twitter mate Trev@futoomph sent us this 1982 shot of Wycombe v Altrincham, which we think might be a bit too good to be rubbish. It is out of focus and on a bit of a slant but there is actually something going on in it.
Villa Park, Aston Villa. This is more like it… a reasonably framed photo of Villa Park’s Holte End, in 1986, ruined by a massive head.
Please send us your efforts… and don’t forget, the more rubbish the better.
If you do actually have some rubbish 80s photos of the match then you should probably buy the retro-footy-grumble-fest ‘Got, Not Got’… runner-up in this year’s Footy Book of the Year, and this Xmas’s must-have stocking filler. Available from branches of WH Smith and Waterstones or online here…
The Newcastle United versus Cambridge United photo is from 1992, not 1982. It is clearly taken from the 1988 vintage Milburn stand.
Yep, typo!
Cheers
Carrow Road, 1980, is a clear favourite of mine – that’s something so terrible about it that it’s actually quite good…a proper ‘fan’s eye view’!
It was nearly too good to go in – players should never be more than 7mm high – as in my efforts.
