Umbro 1992-93 Collection….

The 1992-93 Season saw the launch of the new English Premier League… and shorts were getting longer and kits were getting more complicated, as this flick through the Umbro catalogue shows…

Aston Villa had gone all retro, with lace up collars as a nod to the Villains of the 1890s…

Manchester United also had the lace up collars, though their green and yellow halved kit in honour of Newton Heath wouldn’t arrive for another season…

The laces craze spread as far as East Anglia, with Ipswich Town also adopting the new (old) style…

and Oldham Athletic who had laces on their away strip, whereas the home strip remained more typical of the previous season’s Umbro kits.

If you are fond of kitology then you probably need to own a copy of ‘Got, Not Got’ … you can get it from branches of WH Smith and Waterstones or online here

Re the Villa pics – bloke in the top right – pose inspired by John Inman perhaps? “I’m free”!!

Re the Oldham pics…. Isn’t that the singer out of the 80’s group Imagination? or is it “just an illusion”?

    Glentoran is my particular favourite…

  3. Que buenas camisetas, los diseños de Umbro desde los 80`s hasta el 2008 fueron los mejores, no como los actuales que son muy aburridos.
Tu blog es excelente, siempre entro.
Te mando un abrazo desde Argentina.

Where’s the Sheffield Wednesday kits from the same catalogue? We always get missed out on Umbro memorabilia. Our last ever Umbro kit that season too!

  5. Love this stuff, those Villa kits are fantastic, love the away and third kit. Do companies like Umbro still produce actual paper catalogues?

  6. Matt says:

    Oh excellent! Cheers

  7. Stewart Lee (from W.A.) says:

Nowich City’s kit always reminded me of my budgie and the dietary issues it was suffering from at the time – perhaps a bit of irony.
