FA Cup Semi-Finals at Wembley… Just Wrong…

What other sport would undermine it’s own showpiece occasion in such a fashion..?Clearly and obviously the Liverpool v Everton FA Cup semi-final should have been played at Old Trafford instead of 80,000 Scousers having to head all the way down to the capital.

Part of what made the FA Cup the biggest day in football’s diary was the occasion at Wembley. That grand old venue was part of the reward for reaching the final, not a venue for hire.

Take the semi-finals back to Villa Park, Old Trafford and Hillsborough…  it won’t happen, because Wembley must be paid for, whatever gets lost along the way.

Couldn’t agree more. My experience of semi-finals in 1978 and 1981 were undoubtedly better for having Wembley as the prize. I can’t imagine having the same feeling about a sixth-round tie. Most of the supporters of the four teams involved this year would probably have preferred seeing the matches played at Old Trafford and the Emirates respectively, and it made no difference to those watching on TV, so who gains? Mind you, I’m even more angry about an FA Cup Final which kicks off at 5.15pm. What’s THAT all about?
